Becoming a Dinner Host
VOLUNTEERS OF ALL KINDS CHANGING LIVES
Family Promise’s shelter program relies on a partnership of interfaith congregations and other volunteer groups to help local families facing homelessness. Our dinner hosts provide meals and hospitality to families in need. For families in the program, this is an essential asset that helps ensure our families can save potential resources for when they move into housing. Each day ends with the family all together, under one roof thanks to the community meal provided.
DINNER HOSTS
Local congregations, organizations and individuals provide:
-
A dinner for 7 nights a week in a rotating model. Usually enough to feed roughly 15 people.
-
With the help of others this rotation can be every 6 weeks to once a year, depending on the amount of congregations, organizations and individuals participating.
-
Support through volunteer programs and fundraising.
-
Necessary supplies for the hosting week.
-
Socialization with guest families.
-
A coordinator to arrange meals and volunteers to bring them. In the case of an individual volunteer, they will only need to coordinate with Family Promise.
MANAGEABLE COMMITMENT
-
Family Promise is continually adding volunteers to the rotation
-
Each congregation hosts families for just one week.
-
Family Promise runs criminal background checks and drug screenings on all program participants
